Asylum Reform Proposals

There are two sections on asylum we’d like your insights on (either or both):

1. Allowing Asylum Officers to Decide: Proposal to allow asylum officers to decide whether someone qualifies for asylum, rather than referring them to immigration courts
2. Asylum Screening Centers Outside the US: Proposal to establish new centers outside the US where individuals could ask for an eligibility screening for asylum or refugee status before traveling here

Modernizing The Legal Immigration System

1. Trusted Employer Program: Path for sponsoring foreign workers would be streamlined for repeat employers who have already demonstrated strong records of compliance with immigration and labor law

3. State Opt-In for Temporary Workers: Proposal to allow states to petition for temporary work visas based on their specific population and labor needs
